The 33rd edition of the Olympic Games is about to start. Will be held in France this year from 26 July to 11 August, exactly a century after they took place in this country last time.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics: where to see it

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics will be unique and will remain in history. For the first time, the ceremony will not be held in a stadium but right in the heart of the host city. The athletes’ parade will take place along the Seine river, and each delegation will parade on boats equipped fully with cameras, creating an unprecedented experience. 

Another great news is free access for a wide audience. Spectators can enjoy the event from the upper banks of the Seine and eighty giant screens and speakers, placed in strategic points, will guarantee everyone a spectacular view and an immersive experience.

The 6 km parade will start from the Austerlitz bridge next to the Jardin des Plantes, passing through the two central islands, the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité, crossing ten bridges of Paris, and will end in front of the Trocadéro, where the final shows will take place.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics will start on Friday 26 July at 19.30 and will last about 4 hours, according to Le Parisien.

Italy at the 2024 Olympics

The italian team, meanwhile, has already hit its first record, as it will be represented by the highest number of athletes ever.  Italy is taking part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a record number of 403 athletes, 209 male and 194 female (most of them will be involved in athletics). Previous record was set at Tokyo 2020 in 2021, when Italy was represented by 384 athletes. 

The Italian olympic team is going to France with great ambitions, even though it will be a hard to replicate the 10 gold medals they won three years ago. 

The most important appointments with the Azzurri athletes are those where the athletes are defending the Olympic title, such as Marcell Jacobs in the 100 meters, Gianmarco Tamberi in the high jump, the marchers Massimo Stano and Antonella Palmisano, or the men’s 4×100 relay with Filippo Tortu, Leonardo Fabbri in weightlifting, Nadia Battocletti who won the 5000 meterrs and the 10,000 meters at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, Yeman Crippa in the marathon, Lorenzo Simonelli in the 110 metres wit obstacles, Larissa Iapichino in the long jump, Sara Fantini in the hammer throw, Chituru Ali in the 100 meters, Valentina Trapletti in the march. 

There are also great expectations the national swimming team (Paltrinieri, Ceccon, Martinenghi, Pilato), and fencing.

Who will be the flag carriers for Italy?

Gianmarco Tamberi and Arianna Errigo will be the two flag bearers of Italy at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The two athletes will parade in front of everyone at the opening ceremony along the Seine on July 26, picking up the baton from Elia Viviani and Jessica Rossi of Tokyo 2020 and thus continuing the tradition of having a male athlete and a female athlete in the front row.

What sports will be in Paris 2024 Olympics?

The IOC (International Olympic Committee) has officially announced the list of 32 sports eligible for participation in the upcoming Olympics. Compared to the original program, set on 28 main sports, this year there will be 4 new disciplines: breakdance, surfing, climbing and skateboarding.

Italy’s uniforms at the Olympics 

The EA7 Emporio Armani are the official uniforms of Italian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games; they were unveiled at the presentation of the Emporio Armani men’s spring/summer 2024 collection. 

The wardrobe is Armani blue, and includes the podium track suit

«W Italy» placed on the front of the sweatshirt. 

The initial words of the Italian national anthem are printed on the inside of the collar of the polo shirts and t-shirts, while the very first sentence of the anthem is printed on the inside of the jackets. The wardrobe is completed by trolleys, bags and backpacks, caps and sneakers.

Who is the mascot of Paris 2024? 

Highlighting people’s ability to support and win important causes: this is the message that Phryge, the Paris 2024 Olympic mascot inspired by the frigi, the traditional red caps symbol of the French Revolution, carries with it. Phryge is a symbol of freedom and inclusiveness and it will also be the mascot of the Paralympics games

 

 

Phyrge is dressed in the colors of France – red, white and blue – and on her chest she wears the golden logo of Paris 2024.

How are the Olympic medals

All the medals that will be awarded at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, 5084 in total, have been designed by the historic Parisian jewelry store Chaumet; Gustave Eiffel in person bought at Chaumet store a necklace for his daughter, after building and inaugurating the Tower that bore his name in 1889. 

What makes each medal special is the fact that each one contains 18 grams of iron from the Eiffel Tower, collected from the scraps taken during the recent restructuring works on the Tower.

The central part has an hexagonal shape, symbolizing France (also known as L’Hexagone for its shape). On the back is Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, with the Pantheon, the Eiffel Tower and the Panathinaiko Stadium, symbol of the games in Athens. 

The Paralympic medals, on the other hand, bear the start and end dates of the games in Braille.

Tennis calendar at the 2024 Paris Olympics

On the most prestigious red clay in the world, that of the French Open, tennis is back as a protagonist at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The men’s and women’s singles tournaments will take place from 27th July to 4th August.

In Paris there will also be Carlos Alcaraz, who has just recently won his third Slam on the red clay of the French Open, for the first time at the olympics. As fa as women are concerned, Polish Iga Swiatek who holds four French Open titles, is undoubtedly the favourite for gold medal.

Each nation will deploy up to 6 men and 6 women players, ready to fight to win the Olympic gold medals.

The start of the tennis Olympics is scheduled for Saturday 27th July and will see the participation of 172 athletes from all over the world.

On Monday 29th July there will be the second round of both men’s and women’s tournaments.

On Tuesday 30th the second round for men will continue, while women will go on to the third round.

The third round for men and quarter-finals for women are scheduled for Wednesday  31st July.

On Thursday 1st August there will be the men’s quarter-finals and women’s semi-finals.

On Friday 2nd August  there will be men’s semi-finals, and bronze medals will be awarded to women.

The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August.
